THE PLEASURE OF SIN
Hebrews 11
24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of
Pharaoh's daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy
the pleasures of sin for a season;
26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt:
for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
I once heard someone tell me sin was not fun. Hog wash...if it wasn't
"fun" few would do it. I do however want us to think about the
scripture above. Sin is fun...for a while.
Most of us have had rashes before. I have one now on my ankle, from dry air or
something. Rashes ITCH. Oh boy if feels great to scratch it. However I find that
as I scratch this rash, it gets red, yet I still find pleasure in scratching
this rash. Soon, I am drawing some blood. Yet it still feels good to scratch,
Now instead of feeling itching it is hurting. I still have an urge to
scratch it. If I do not control these urges I am sure it would get infected. As
an RN I know there are balms to put on this rash to stop the itching. It would
be far better to have applied this balm when it first started to itch. Now when
I apply it, it HURTS...I enjoyed the pleasure of scratching it too long instead
of applying the balm to stop it.
As an RN I know it was wrong to scratch a rash in the first place. For doing
what I know was wrong I am paying the price.
My friend, THIS is what SIN does to our whole being. It feels great to
"scratch" it. BUT SIN ALWAYS has a price to pay. Much as this rash got
worse, sin makes us worse. Often we do not notice it until it is too late. We
see the gusto of life for drinking, the pleasure of "springtime" when
we take a puff, the great feeling of ahhh pleasure when we cheat on our husband
or wife...or when we engage in sexual activity apart from marriage. My friend,
satan never paints a full picture. We are not shown the results of this..
results a very dear friend of ours knows all to well first hand as someone else
drank to much and then drove. We are not shown people still smoking through a
tube or the victims of sexual immorality from broken homes to AIDES victims
dying a very slow, very painful death. I HAVE seen these things. I had a very
dear sister in Christ die before my eyes because of someone else's Pleasure for
a moment. Her husband was the unfaithful one but it affected her too. SIN does
not stand alone...it does not affect US alone...it affects all those around us
too. Yes SIN is pleasant...for a season...then we pay a very high price often
for only a few MOMENTS and I mean that literally...pleasure. Galatians 6
6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all
good things.
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he
also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he
that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
My friend, If you are "scratching this rash", enjoying the pleasure of
sin...remember it is only for a season...then satan will give you the bill.
As I said about my rash, there is a balm I could have used. If you do not know
My Jesus my friend, I want to tell you there IS A BALM in Gilead to make the
wounded whole. There is a balm to HEAL the sin sick soul.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
HE IS the ONLY balm that will cure this "rash" called SIN
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name
under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
My friend, if you know you have trusted Christ for full payment for your
sin....and have started to "scratch this rash" again, if you have it
reddened and perhaps even infected, this balm applies to you also....
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
In either state, if this rash is still itching...if you still enjoy the
pleasures of sin even for a season...USE this balm of Gilead TODAY.
