Prayer, What to Ask For
There once
was a town in the Midwest that was having a sever dry spell... the town churches
called for a prayer meeting in the town square to pray for rain. Hundreds of
people were there to pray for rain yet only one small boy brought an UMBRELLA.
How often to we hedge our own prayers with a built in "well I guess it was
not God's will" when we do not seem to get an answer? Could this build in
hedge actually be a lack of faith to begin with that will block the answer? Do
we not often add "if it is your will?" and but do it in a way that it
is almost an escape clause?
How can we prevent this?
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Philippians 2:5
The more we become like Jesus, the more our prayer will fall into His will...
You ever been married for a long time? Every start "thinking" like
your husband or your wife (yea, scary isn't it) Every complete what they are
saying before they say it? Is that not because we know each other so well we
start thinking like them? Why then do we not know our Lord so well we start
thinking like HIM? Is not this what this verse is telling us to do?
Lets look at another verse:
Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine
heart. Psalms 37:4
Often we hear people say we can get whatever we want if we delight ourselves in
the Lord. Sort of like a blank check...I desire a new car and bingo it is
there... Ok now I want a boat....
Is not there another way to look at it? That when we become more Christ like, we
will desire what HE wants in our life?
If we pray according to Scripture we will be praying according to God's will.
Ever hear someone pray "Dear God please save so and so if it be Your
will...." Hog wash folks... in this case we KNOW it is God's will for HE
said
"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness;
but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that
all should come to repentance."
2 Peter 3:9
Have you ever had your child come to you for something and repeat what you told
them in the request... "You told me that you would..." ? We need to do
that with God also... Use HIS word when pray...pray scripture. when asking for
someone's illness, use the scripture that tells about healing.. when we pray for
salvation, pray for the Lord of the harvest to send laborers to tell them about
the Lord (but remember YOU may well be the laborer that someone else is praying
for to tell their loved one about Christ)
Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are
few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth
labourers into his harvest. Luke 10:2

Ask God to assess you with the prayer in Ps

Keep a right relationship with God first, then with your husband or wife.
