The hidden half of domestic violence
How to have eternal life
Today is Thanksgiving 2004
Once again, I find myself sitting here with a message I want to share
with each of you. It is a message of hope in a hopeless world. It
is a message of peace in a whirlpool of conflict. The question is,
how do I really get it across to you? But then, I realize my job is
to simply write what I feel is on my heart and then leave it up to
the Spirit to do HIS work.
I wonder how many are really thankful? I wonder how many
feel: "thanksgiving...for WHAT?"
Many reading this are in constant pain. Others may be eating their
traditional Thanksgiving meal at a rescue mission or church which
does it for the homeless. A few simply may not have anything to eat
today. Many of you may be essentially homeless.
Others do not have jobs, some do not have families. Worse yet,
others have families they can not see. Some of you will not be able
to see your children knowing full well that your children whom you
love dearly are being told that "Daddy (and sometimes mommy) does not
I know of several children who would love to see their mom or dad,
but mom or dad just does not care about having a relationship with
them. These kids are now suffering from very low self esteem because
they wonder how they can be so bad that mom or dad does not love
Many of you have been or are in very abusive relationships but you
still hope things will change.
Still others have spouses and children that do not know the Lord and
some are in open rebellion.
Many are wondering.....THANKSGIVING....For WHAT???
I have been thinking about this message for several days. Today I
got this in my e-mail from a prayer group I am in. It says a lot of
what I wanted to say too: (I do feel it is confirmation for this
message that it is a message many of you needed to hear)
"They call the day Thanksgiving. But how many people do you know who
are thankful, and then-- what for? Jeanne and I will be sharing a
couple of days with our son Mark and his family of 5 in Alabama. The
meal and fellowship will be wonderful I'm sure.
Thoughts of so many situations happening in the USA and around the
world are flooding my mind.
The wars, the terrorism, the lost and indifferent souls. Some are
starving, not only for food and drink, but also for companionship,
true friendship, and love. Some seek a safe haven in the form of a
religion, but find only desperation even there; if they can so much
as find a place to worship.
Many would say, and I won't argue, that our greatest gift as
Christian humans, is our salvation. But I beg to differ with that,
and ask you to examine what follows.
God gave us a mind, which raised us above the animals. With it, we
can make many important decisions including wether or not to seek or
truth, love and yes -- salvation. You see, the mind came before the
learning and seeking, did it not? With it we can choose to seek
Jesus, and to ask him to aid us in helping ourselves and others,
being guided and empowered by The Holy Spirit.
Some will say this can only be done by attending a particular Church
or sect. Did Jesus do that, or did he advise us to follow him. And
did he not, as he does even now, forgive our sins when we ask him
too? Truly then, the most wonderful prayer, along with our other
ones, would be to simply say,
"Thank you Jesus, for giving us a mind."
Many are wondering how a loving God could allow so many of the things
we have talked about to occur. My friend, that is just it...it
happens because HE is a loving God.
You see, God gave free will to each one of us. As I mentioned in the
e-mail I posted above, God gave each of us a mind... and "With it, we
can make many important decisions including wether or not to seek or
truth, love and yes -- salvation."
My friend, are you going through the things I mentioned above? Are
you suffering due to an unjust world? If you do not know the LORD
you may well be wondering, Why should I believe in a God that allowed
all of this. You may be asking, where was God when these things
happened and where is He now?
My friend, God is here right now...calling YOUR name. He wants to
give you something worth living for. He wants to mend your broken
heart. Heartaches, Broken Pieces, Ruined Lives,
That's why He died on Calvary, His touch is what you long for, and He
can give life to you my friend.
NO...I will not promise you that everything would be OK and that your
family would be reunited, or all of these problems you now face will
vanish. No one was ever promised they would never have another
problem if they trusted Christ. We are promised that we can have
peace in the midst of the storm.
We are promised: "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am
meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count
slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any
should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
For those who have trusted Christ and are now in the situations
1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy
endureth for ever.
2 O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for
3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy
to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
2 Corinthians 1
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation
also aboundeth by Christ.
6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and
salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings
which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your
consolation and salvation.
7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are
partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.
Oh yes my friend, we all have much to be thankful for.
CALVARY'S THE REASON WHY
I WAS LOST
BUT YOU KNEW WHERE TO FIND ME
I WAS HUNGRY
YOU WERE BREAD FOR MY SOUL
I WAS THIRSTY
AND YOU GAVE LIVING WATER
YOU WERE MY SHELTER
WHEN I HAD NO PLACE TO GO .
THAT'S WHY SOMETIMES
I JUST WANT TO PRAISE YOU
SOMETIMES JUST TO SPEAK YOUR NAME
SOMETIMES I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU
WITHOUT ASKING YOU FOR A THING
OH SOMETIMES I LIFT MY HANDS TO YOU
AND SOMETIMES ALL I DO IS CRY
EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE I OWE TO YOU
LORD AND CALVARY'S THE REASON WHY .
WHEN I THINK
OF THE LOVE THAT YOU'VE GIVIN'
LORD WHEN I THINK
OF THE PRICE YOU PAID FOR ME
THEN THE TRIALS ON EARTH
THEY JUST SEEM LIKE NOTHIN'
WHEN THEY'RE COMPARED TO DARK CALVARY.
Calvary's the reason why.....My friend, I contend that if God never
did another thing for us, HE did enough two thousand years ago at a
hill called Mt Calvary. Still we have so many great things in store
1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear
heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which
God hath prepared for them that love him.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,
saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an
