The hidden half of domestic violence
Submission
Right after Shattered Men was started on
Oct 31, 1999, I wrote about marriage
and the need to have the right priorities in marriage. One of the first
messages I wrote also contained the need for a wife to be submissive to her own
husband.
ELOI ELOI la' ma sabach' thani? stirred up a hornets nest with some people when
it was written. You see according to many "experts" on marriage, we
are told
that women do not have to stay in a marriage where abuse occurs. Even the
church has been adapting the world view of abuse....which is literally anything
a woman wants it to be. Yes I do know that abuse works both ways but our
society does not think women can be abusive.

I have even talked to "marriage counselors" who have stated that they
do not
teach submission now because too many have misunderstood it. Others have
said...Oh yes wives are to submit "spiritually" I have also gotten the
old...co-submissiveness excuse too
One major problem with that is that Ephesians 5:24 states: "Therefore as
the
church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in
every thing."
I have gotten blank stares when I showed these "experts" the above
verse and
asked them...since when is the church CO-SUBMISSIVE to the Lord?
Still I agree that far too many misunderstand "submission" Standing
alone, this
verse would be very dangerous to many women but we need to go on to the next
verse:
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave
himself for it;
My friend, that is better protection for women then anything I know. If I love
my wife, I do not want her to be my slave. I also know that submission can not
be demanded...it has to be offered.
Still, many will not listen to anything a man has to say about a wife submitting
to her own husband. We are called women haters as well as other things that can
not be repeated here.
