How to have eternal life

I Did It MY Way

(I don't Need Nobody)

I once saw a sign that said: "if you want to make God laugh....tell Him YOUR plans!  If we think about it, there is a lot of truth in that statement.

When one mentions Frank Sinatra many of us think of one of his most popular songs...."My Way"  Below are the lyrics:

And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, I'll say it clear,
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain.

I've lived a life that's full.
I've traveled each and ev'ry highway;
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I've had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.

I've loved, I've laughed and cried.
I've had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
"No, oh no not me,
I did it my way".

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!

There are many that could have adapted this song as their own.  We can see that the first person to take a human life wanted to do it his way.  Cain and Abel, his brother both gave offerings to GOD.  Abel's was accepted because he offered the animal sacrifice that God wanted. Cain did it his way.  He offered up things he produced because he though he could earn his own way.  Cain then became jealous that his brother's offering was accepted and his was not.  (Genesis 4: 3-7)

Look at "My Way" above and count the times a personal pronoun is used it that one song.  Even worse then this, is the line that says: "And not the words of one who kneels"  He then goes on to say "he" took the blows.  My friend, I can assure you that kneeling is not a sign of weakness.  In fact, there is no more powerful human being then one that kneels, if he kneels at the foot of the CROSS!!!   Even satan trembles at the sight of the weakest Christian on his or her knees because he knows the Shepherd is always near this precious person.

We have seen many think they can do things their way...and every one of them had tragic results.  Oh, most of us would like to be "self sufficient" and not need anyone but this is not what God had in mind.  He declared that it was not good for man to be alone.  He designed us to need each other and he designed men and women to compliment each other. It must grieve HIM greatly to see these "gender wars" we so often create.  Let us look a few others that did it their way.

Luke 12
16   And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
17   And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18   And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19   And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
20   But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
21   So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

Often we can think we are self sufficient because we may be rich.

Mark 10
17   And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
18   And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
19   Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
20   And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
21   Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
22   And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

It is important to remember that Jesus taught us to pray "give us this day....our daily bread.  We also see that God provided manna on a daily basis except for the 6th day when He provided enough for the Sabbath day also. When some tried to gather more then they needed for that day, it became infested with worms.  There is a good reason for this.  God wants us to depend upon Him daily. I have seen some request prayer so they could become wealth.  One even ask for prayer so they could pick the right lottery numbers and win millions.  Several supported this person by telling them that they would pray for this when they should have told them not to bother as that is a prayer that contradicts Gods Word.  (research has  shown that many of those who became instant millionaires by state sanctioned gambling declare bankruptcy within years of winning the money. Most are more miserable after wining the money then they were before the got it)

When Christians have trials such as health, joblessness, or relationship problems that they did not provoke, it often causes them to learn to lean on God more.  Andrae Crouch said it well in "Through it All"

'I thank God for the mountains, And I thank him for the valleys, And
I thank him for the storms he's brought me through.
For if I had never had a problem,
I would never know that God could solve them, And I would never know
what faith in his word could do. Through it all I've learned to trust
in Jesus.' I've learned to depend upon God's word.

Sometimes we can make it sound really "Christian" to do it our way.  There has been a very popular and well known minister who taught us the "power of positive thinking"   The problem, it is not Biblical.  It is essentially the lie that satan told Adam and Eve.  They could do it their way and they could then think positively and become as God themselves

 Barbra Streisand  came a little closer to getting it right with "People"

People, people who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world
We're children needing other children
And yet letting our grown-up pride
Hide all the need inside
Acting more like children than children

Lovers are very special people
They're the luckiest people in the world
With one person, one very special person
A feeling deep in your soul
Says you WERE half now you're whole
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person who needs people

People, people who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world.

Barbra did get it right when she said " grown-up pride"  because it is our pride that tells us we can do it our way.  We do hide all the need inside and that will make some very powerful strongholds.  Many of the men and women  in Shattered Men did hide it all inside and as a result, they suffered greatly thinking they were the only one that had that problem.  Often satan would get them to do something as as soon as they did, he told them to keep quite because no one will like you if they found out what YOU did.  When they took the risk to expose it, they found they were far from alone.  Many expressed that they too had the same problem and the same fear of exposing this stronghold.  They also found the answer when they did.

The last verse gets very close.  Lovers are very special people...but remember the one that loves us the most...gave HIS life for us so that we can live.  HE is the lover of our soul.

JESUS is one very special person...a person that makes us whole It is a feeling deep within our soul that something is missing.

No more hunger and thirst.... JESUS is the bread of LIFE.  He is the LIVING WATER and He tells us that if we come to HIM, we will never thirst again.

JESUS....JESUS....JESUS.  Oh  how I long to make HIM known to YOU my friend.  If you have been looking for that special person, that one that will satisfy, His name is JESUS and HE is waiting for YOU.  He is waiting to make you whole

Frank said: "And now, the end is near"   My friend, we often do not know when the end is near.  We are told that life is like a vapor, it is here and then gone in an instant.  Hebrews 9:27 states:  And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Are you ready for that judgment my friend?  If you have been doing things your way, I assure you that you are not.  Since none of us are promised a tomorrow, we are all one heart beat away from meeting our maker.  Those of us who have stopped doing it our way and have started doing it GOD's way will meet our precious LORD JESUS CHRIST at the gate of heaven waiting to welcome us home.   Those of us who have not, will await the Great White Throne Judgment and will be doomed for all eternity

How do we do it God's Way?

Many people know ABOUT God but to have a relationship with Him, we have to KNOW Him. What is the difference?
Knowing about God can include us being aware of all the facts concerning Him. Many people think that knowing that Jesus Christ died for our sin is all that is needed for salvation. It is NOT! In order to have salvation that is to have eternal life there are a few basic steps we need to follow. This is so important I want to go over them,

1: We need to realize we have sinned. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God This means we have failed to met the goal of being perfect in order to enter heaven. Few of us would question this.

2: The penalty for the sin that we are guilty of is death. Romans 6:23 tells us The wages of sin is death. (Death is separation. When our body dies, our soul is separated from our body. Eternal death is when we die without doing what is being explained here and then our spirit is separated from God for eternity.

Since the only price we can pay for our own sin is to be separated from God forever, it stands to reason that there is no way we can pay for our sin ourselves. We thus come to the 2nd part of Romans 6:23: but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ the Lord.

3: 2nd Corinthians 5:21 informs us: For he hath made him, who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Jesus Christ, God's only Son became sin for us so that we can be freed from the penalty of sin. What then do we need to do?

4: For GOD so loved the world that HE gave His only begotten Son that whosoever (read YOUR name here) believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Please note the ONLY condition given is that we believe in Jesus Christ for full payment for our sin.

5:  Many times our own past activities or the activities of our ancestors may be a basis for demonic problems based on Exodus 20:5.  It is important therefore to Renounce  the sins of our ancestors.

Now if we only learn these facts, even though we may understand that they are true and believe them. that is only knowing ABOUT GOD. How do we KNOW HIM then? It is APPLYING that payment to our account.

This would be like having a check to pay a bill and putting the check on a desk. The bill does not get paid because the check was never APPLIED to your account. Once we know and believe the facts pointed out above, the next step is to TALK to God much as you and I would and admit that we have fallen short of what He wants.

We recognize that we deserve to be separated from a Holy God. We then tell Him that we know that He has provided a payment for all our sin and this payment was Jesus Christ when He died on a cross.

It is at this time we ask God to APPLY THIS PAYMENT TO OUR ACCOUNT. We ask God to credit as PAYMENT IN FULL for all our sin the price Jesus paid for us. It is this step that gives us eternal life. If we do all but this step, we know about God.

 When we do this step, we will KNOW God and we will have eternal life.  Following is a model of a prayer to trust Christ.

Lord God,  I now realize I am a sinner.  I realize I have fallen short of the goal You have set forth for eternal life and I now repent of this sin.  I also understand that according to Your Word, the Bible, that Your Son, Jesus Christ as paid the debt for me and I am now asking You to credit the payment Jesus made on the cross to my sin.  Lord God, I also renounce any sin on the part of  my ancestors that may have been invitations to curses or demonic activity.   Lord God I also now understand that You have now given me eternal life  and I thank You for that fact.    Amen.
