The hidden half of domestic violence
LET'S MAKE A DEAL
Have you every purchased something and paid cash for
it, later to get a bill for the product you purchased. The one thing that saved
you from having to pay for it again, was a piece of paper they gave you stamped:
PAID IN FULL
We all like bargains. We love to think we got a good deal on things. The look we
see when we show someone something that should cost far more then we paid for
it. Ummm, I am sure you have shown your friends things and said...Guess how much
I paid....and we love it when then think it was much higher then we paid.
We have also heard the jokes about someone..well as much as I do not like jokes
that tear someone down, I will say this one out to get this message across. We
have heard a joke about Bill Clinton coming back from Arkansas with two
razorback pigs under his arms. When asked what he got them for, he said he got
them for Hillary and Chelsie. The person then told him he got a great deal.
Folks, I want to tell you about the BEST DEAL in the world through all time.
Before I tell you about this deal....let me tell you about the most tragic yet
the most wonderful event that ever happened.
FLASH BACK 2,000 years ago to a place called Golgotha. A couple of hours ago
now, three men were placed on crosses and the cross was lifted up and allowed to
drop with a bone rattling THUD into the holes dug for them to keep them upright.
Two of these men were cussing out the Romans and all those around them. Two were
begging for mercy, even demanding to be taken down at times. The one in the
middle was so much unlike those other two. He never complained. Why in fact,
when he was placed on that cross, he laid down, and stretched his hands out
willingly when they drove nails through his hands. It was a bright, sunny day
when this started promptly at 9 AM. Just like any military activity, the Romans
were so very much on time.
The two men on the sides were beaten, but nothing like this man...for he was
beaten so much more then the others. He had a crown of thorns jammed on his head
and one could hardly recognize him as even being human any more.
These Romans had executed hundreds of people..but NONE like this man. Some
very strange things occurred. Things that never were seen before. At noon, the
highest point of the sun, it turned dark. So dark it was like a moonless night.
Ahh but it would only last a few moments. Someone said it must be an eclipse or
something. Still, it was dark one..two hours later...and still dark.
Strange noises could be heard throughout the land. Noises like...like sinister
laughing as all hell was having a party. Look there abaddon said apolyon, there
is their precious Jesesssss (said with a lisp like the old serpent in mockery to
the KING OF KINGS) Soon he will be DEAD and we have won. Look even the sun
refuses to shine.
These demons of hell were even more convinced that victory was theirs when the
earth shook off its foundations. The party would go on, one day, two days...into
the third but more about this later. Lets return to that man on the cross in the
middle.
Never before had this happened. Never before had a man that was being crucified
said the things he did. Why he even called for the forgiveness of those doing
this. He was heard to promise that even today, one of the other men would be
with him in paradise.
Then at 3 PM, a shout was heard... IT IS FINISHED. Immediately after that shout,
the sun came out again at full brightness. The man in the middle was lifeless as
it came time to assure rapid death for the three men. The legs of those on each
side were broken to hasten death, but the man in the middle, this..JESUS was
already dead. They did something not heard of for the Romans. They always broke
the condemned's legs to assure death, but not this one, not Jesus. They drove a
spear into his side and declared he was dead.
The title of this post is Lets Make a Deal. The events I have just described
makes this deal possible..for that last shout..
IT IS FINISHED
paid for that deal and it paid for it in FULL.
What is this deal? Well, I get to give GOD all of my garbage, all of my filth
and shame and believe me, I had loads of it. What did He give me for this in
return? He gave me RIGHTEOUSNESS.
I gave God a shattered life and a broken heart. HE gave me life eternal and a
new song.
I gave HIM a worthless pile of junk, and He gave me value beyond all measure.
I gave HIM all the garbage I have, and HE gave me a RELATIONSHIP...A
relationship so close that HE wants me to call HIM..the God of the universe
..the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY.....DADDY!
My friend, can you beat this deal? ALL that HE has given me has been stamped
PAID IN FULL.
You see, this term Jesus used was a business term, and accounting term. The debt
was settled. Not 20%, not 50% or 75% but 100%...ALL the debt was paid in full. I
gave JESUS my sin...my trash, my garbage and HE gave me RIGHTEOUSNESS.
What makes this deal possible? Oh it is
not so much the "death" of our LORD, but something that happened on that third
day....something that STOPPED that party all hell was having it its tracks.
let's peek in on that party and see what happened.
Far into the night on the second day, the demons were still shouting and mocking
the Son of Man, the Son of God. "oh yea, he saved others and he could not save
himself. Yea some God he was. We won, we wo....what..OH NO NOOOOOOOOOO
THE TOMB IT IS EMPTY....NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
You see my friend, we will all die. Only ONE came back from the dead and is
STILL ALIVE. THIS is what declares our DEAL has been paid in
full. It is the EMPTY TOMB that separates Christians from all the religions.
It is the empty tomb that gives JESUS the right to declare:
I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
It is the empty tomb that gives God the right to also declare
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
It is the empty tomb that gives POWER to Christianity.,
My friend, if YOU have trusted Christ for salvation, He made the deal for ALL
your garbage..so I ask you, are you still holding on to any of it? Are you still
feeling guilty, worthless? Are you still suffering under a heavy load of shame?
Jesus made a deal to take all of that from you. There is one catch, although all
of this garbage now belongs to GOD, HE will not take it out without YOUR
permission.
