The hidden half of domestic violence

How to have eternal life

Here I Am Lord...NO  Not ME Lord!

One has only to look around to see there is a world in tremendous need. Everyday, we get reports of more people starving to death in several parts of the world. Almost any daily paper will have reports of towns ravaged by natural disasters  be they tornados, hurricanes or earthquakes.  Most of us do not have to look beyond our own family to see too often desperate need.  These are all  needs we can see.  We can see the extended abdomens on starving children. Many people think it is a sign of being well fed but it is actually a sign of severe starvation.

While this message will address these physical needs too, I want to reflect on those needs we can not see. Often we can not see a need.  Just like there are some very seriously handicapped people who for all outward appearance look "normal" but have hidden disease that gives them every right to park in a handicapped spot, some of the more serious needs people have are hidden from sight.

In a message I called "Tipping"  I suggested that sometimes when a waiter or waitress seems distant, perhaps it could be because they need to work to pay for medical attention for a gravely ill child or spouse.  This would be an example of a hidden need.

Of course, the most important need any human has, is the need to have a personal relationship with God.  Often those that do not know God could well have some urgent needs other then that.  Sometimes they are hidden needs such as the need to know where God was when they were being horribly abused.  These precious people will often have a low self esteem.  They will often think they are not worth loving and that even GOD does not love them.  After all, it is what they have been told most of their life.  As  a result, they will often throw road blocks up anytime someone tries to get close. We have addressed this in "Rejection" and "Love Worth Finding" so I will not rehash this at this time.

The purpose of this message is to find someone that will meet the needs so many people have. We will be addressing who is called, why they may not answer the call, and what could the result be of not answering the call to help those in need.

WHO WILL MEET THE NEED?

There are four people who can do the job: Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.  Everybody thinks Somebody will surely do it.
It is a job Anybody can do. But Nobody is doing it.

Lets look at what Isaiah said about being called to do a job.

Isaiah 6:8   Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I,  Here am I; send me.

WHY DON'T SOME ANSWER THE NEED?

1:  "I am undone"

Isaiah said "Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts." (Isaiah 6:5)

Many people feel they are not "qualified" to do the job. Often they think they need to have "been there" to be able to help someone that is there.  One problem, some of the best obstetricians have never nor will they  ever have a baby because they are men. The only thing God needs is a willing vessel.  A willing person to say...Here am I....send me!

Another reason for not answering the call, we do not want to see the results. Jonah was the first foreign missionary.  God called him to go to Nineveh, but he did not want to because he feared that they would repent and God would spare them.  How often do we avoid doing what God tells us to do because we do not want want to see the results?  We do not want to see God bless the person or persons He told us to go to.  Could it be that sometimes we would rather see that person go to hell because they are the one that abused us so horribly?  If we have this feeling, it can only be because we have not forgiven them.  Unforgiveness will result in bitterness and that will block our spiritual growth. Bitterness will also cause all sorts of health problems for the one that is bitter too.  Oh yea, about that person not deserving to be told about Jesus because of what they did to us....WE do not deserve it either because of what WE did to JESUS!  It was for OUR sin HE DIED!

2:  "I am unclean"

Often we do not answer the call because we feel "unworthy"  We do not think we are good enough to do the task.  Sometimes we think we have been too good.  Those who have been deep into sin may inadvertently testify about what God has done for them in such a way that those who have not been deep into sin may think they do not have a testimony to give.  My friend, those who have lived pure lives do have a testimony of God's keeping power. We all need to make sure we glorify God in our testimonies and not the sin HE brought us out of.  We do not need to describe the sin in all of its horrid details.  Keep the focus on GOD.

Sometimes we think we need fancy degrees and we need to have enough "degrees" we could paper a room with them.  Remember, all but two of the apostles were ignorant fishermen or tax collectors. (Luke and Paul were the only ones with "degrees")  God does not call the able, HE enables the called. The most important aspect to being called, is to be with Jesus.

This does not mean we can go unprepared. We are told to "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."  2 Timothy 2:15  There are several places in which God tells us HE will put the words in our mouth,

Jeremiah 1:9   Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

3:  I am afraid

Jeremiah 1
7   But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
8   Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

Often we are afraid we will say the wrong thing.  Most of the time, not saying anything is the wrong thing.  We are also afraid of being made fun of, being mocked.  What makes us better the Jesus Christ?  Wasn't He made fun of?  Wasn't He mocked?

4:  No one will believe me!

Exodus 4:1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.

5:  God can find someone better able to do it then me.

I was a medic in the Army.  One day, we have a few dozen medics standing around and someone collapsed.  You may be saying it was good to have so many medics around.  The problem, it was a cook that went to this persons aide to begin  with.  All the medics stood around thinking the others were better able to do the job then they were.

We may think we lack eloquence.

And Moses said unto the LORD, O my LORD, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

David was just a shepherd boy. God saw a King.  When it came time to battle Goliath, they search the entire army and found no one willing to step forward for this task, yet a small boy who knew his position in God declared:  Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.  (1 Samuel 17:45)

Once again, IF God calls us...HE will enable us to do the job HE calls us for.  I contend that God most often calls those we would least expect so that when the job is done, we will know without a doubt that GOD did it and not we with our abilities.

WHAT COULD THE RESULT BE OF NOT ANSWERING?

There are many that believe that if they do not do the job, God will get someone else to do it. Everybody thinks Somebody will surely do it.  What if they don't?  Can we assume that God will get someone else to do the job we do not do?  If so, why are there so many kids starving to death?  Wouldn't GOD get someone to feed them?  What about child abuse?  If an adult sees a child being abused, and they do not want to get involved, why do we have so many members in Shattered Men?  Wouldn't someone rise up to meet this need?  No my friend, not only are they not rising up to heed the call, many are hiding their heads in the sand.  They are pretending the problem does not exist.  This is one reason Shattered Men does not get replies from many of the places we have written. It is one reason why Jerusalem Daily/Shattered Men was rejected by a Christian radio station.

There could be more tragic results  Folks, this is so important that I want to repost something we have posted several times. It is called "My Friend" written by Vera Lynn Edge

One day a girl named Louise fell asleep and dreamed a strange dream. she dreamed that a gal in Hell wrote her a letter and sent it to her by an angel-its a true story - if you can read it without weeping then......

The Letter

My friend I stand in judgment now.
And feel that you are to blame somehow.
On earth, I walked with you day by day,
And you never did point the way.

You knew the Lord in truth and glory.
But never did you tell the story.
My knowledge then was very dim.
You could have led me safe to him.

Though we lived together on earth.
you never told me of the sacred birth,
and now I stand this day condemned, because you failed to mention him.

You taught me many things that's true,
I called you friend and trusted you.
but I learn now that its too late.
you could have kept me from this fate.

We walked by day and talked by night.
And yet you showed me not the light.
you let me live and love and die.

But you knew I would never live on high.
Yet I called you friend in life.
And trusted you through joy and strife.
and yet on coming to the end.
I cannot, now , call you "My Friend".

-Marsha

After Louise awoke from that dream and it was still real in her mind, She contemplated the meaning of the dream. And thought that she had not done all that she could to tell her friends about Jesus. She said to herself that she would make a point to tell her friend Marsha about the dream some time soon!! The next day She called her friend Marsha and this was the conversation "Bill is Marsha there?? "Louise , you don't know yet!!!". "No, Bill what". "MARSHA WAS KILLED LAST NIGHT IN A CAR ACCIDENT"!"  I thought you knew"

My friend, what if Marsha were YOUR daughter?  Your sister?  What if that person God has asked YOU to talk to today never sees tomorrow?   There are four people who can do the job: Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.   Everybody thinks Somebody will surely do it. It is a job Anybody can do. But Nobody is doing it. At least I'm trying. What are you doing?

Here I Am Lord...NO  Not ME Lord!  What will YOU say when God asks YOU to do something?
