The hidden half of domestic violence
How to have eternal life
Using The WRONG FUEL
The Amazing Race features several teams of two that race around the
world following clues and puzzles along the way. The are provided just
enough to accomplish the tasks. One couple stopped to get fuel in
the car the host provided. They topped of with a full tank of
gasoline but just as the fuel cap was being replaced, the person
adding the fuel noticed something on the filler lid. "DIESEL FUEL
ONLY" They had filled up with the WRONG fuel. Precious time was lost
finding someone to drain the tank and then refueling with the right fuel.
We too often fill up with the wrong fuel. Many of us have what are
called strongholds. These are thought patterns that cause us to put up walls instead of building bridges to reach out to others. We will discuss how these walls are build shortly.
We know our bodies run on fuel we call food. Some food is better then others as we well know. We have heard much about the fast food diet problems. We have heard recently about some foods helping prevent major illness such as cancer and heart disease. When one only eats "junk food" often we will feel like...junk. We will have little energy, often have body pains and well, we can get just plain fat.
We know when our bodies need fuel. We get hungry. When we fill up on a proper diet, often we will feel much better. The main problem, is often the proper diet does not taste as good as Whoppers, Big Macs or The "Works" Pizzas and we can not get a serving a minute. We have to wait for a well balanced meal that will be good for us.
There is a much more important balanced diet we need. We all need a Spiritual diet. My friend, this applies be we a Christian or not. Even non Christians are looking for something to satisfy an inward longing in their hearts. Oh, often they do not know it and will even deny it but let's look at this for a moment.
Many have tired one "religion" after another and still are looking for one that satisfies. Often we look for new age philosophies, Yoga, Transcendental Meditation and a host of other things that just do not fill that longing in our soul. We are filling up on the wrong fuel.
Often, we could be filling up on fuel that in reality will destroy everything around it. Many go to the local bar to fill up or they use a click of the mouse to go to XXX rated websites or chat rooms hoping to find something that will satisfy...but it doesn't. It only increases that deep inward feeling that something is missing. Often we try adding more of the same wrong fuel and often it h as tragic results. One has only to look around to see the equivalent of the auto shops replacing blown engines because the wrong fuel was used. Only, these engines can not simply be replaced. You see, the "auto shops" of our life are psych wards and counselors. They are the jails, rescue missions and flop houses.
We as Christians can fill up on the wrong fuel too. I know some well meaning Christians that will at times pull up to the "pump" and fill up on the horoscope or go to their "yoga" class. Often this wrong fuel is so subtle we do not notice the sputtering engine for some time.
The wrong fuel. How do we know? Just as those in the Amazing Race found out when they finally read the instructions.... "DIESEL FUEL ONLY" we too have instructions. Often we fill up on the wrong fuel because we do not read the instruction manual. We can find the instructions in the owner's manual, the Bible. Let's look at some of the instructions for a child of the KING.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Our engine needs to be tuned to the fuel we use.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
At times, we may not even realize the wrong fuel is being used. If a gas station attendant fueled our car, we might not know until it is too late to save the engine. Often we are given the wrong fuel as children. Just as it is so easy to give a crying baby candy or to stick a bottle filled with sugar water of some sort his/her mouth because it is the easy way to do the job, often we can say or do things just to appease someone, but it is not what they need to hear.
Many of those here have been given the wrong fuel of condemnation, ridicule and rejection. Seldom if ever was the right fuel of praise, appreciation and love given.
If you were one that has been given the wrong fuel, please let me refer you to the MASTER MECHANIC . HE can replace the ruined engine of your soul and give you one that will make you whole again. Humpty Dumpty
If you are the one that is filling up on the wrong fuel, the first thing you need to do is STOP. Oh yea, often it may seem like it is working and maybe even working better then before. I once had a weed trimmer I used the wrong fuel in. Actually, it was pure gasoline, not the mixture of gas and oil it called for. Boy did it run good...for about a half hour. Then it stopped never to run again. Could we be doing the same to others? Using pure gasoline when it calls for a mixture? Are we not told to "season" our answers with salt, to do all things in love? To just tell someone the truth without salt or love would be to use the wrong fuel and we often see the same results as I did with this weed trimmer.
Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
What are some of the things we can do that will stop us in our tracks? False teachers will do it. Oh we may not notice it at first but we will get further away from God. We are told to try the spirits to see if they are from God. We do this by carefully checking the things we are told to see if they do agree with God's written Word. If not, it is the wrong fuel. Be very careful with the "ads" that promise so much more. Oh we often hear about the idea that we should "live happily ever after" with not a care in this world. Why if we were to listen to some of these claims, we would never have another hang nail and we would never stub our toe in the dark. Folks....it is the wrong fuel. Jesus actually promised we would get some problems just for belonging to Him. Do you realize that more people are suffering for being a Christian today then ever before in all of human history? Yet they know they have filled up on the right fuel, the fuel that will bring us all the way home.
What is the purpose of fueling up anyway? Folks we are running a race and any one doing so will need fuel be it fuel for a formula one race car, or extra calories for a marathon runner. One important difference in this race we are running...we are not running it alone. In most races, the first one over the finish line is the one and only winner. In this race, everyone that goes to the finish line is a winner...and the more people we help along the way, the more treasured the prize. Often we will not have a crowd cheering us on in this race. Often no one will even notice. Look at this song:
So send I you
to labor unrewarded,
To serve unpaid, unloved,
To bear rebuke,
to suffer scorn and scoffing,
So send I you, to toil for me a-lone.
As the Father hath sent Me,
So send I you.
So send I you to bind the bruised and broken,
O'erwand'ring souls to work, to weep, to wake,
To bear the burden of a world aweary
So send I you to suffer for my sake.
So send I you to loneliness and longing,
With heart ahung'ring for the loved and known,
Forsaking home and kindred, friend and dear one
So send I you to know My love alone.
So send I you to leave your life's ambition,
To die to dear desire, selfwill resign,
To labor long and love where men revile you
So send I you to lose your life in Mine.
My friend, let's all start using the right fuel. The fuel we saw mentioned in Philippians 4:8 whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report;
Let us change the way we think about what will bring us happiness and start to think according to the will of our LORD...HE was above all a servant. He was filled with compassion and this compassion compelled Him to DO something about what HE saw.
HE wants us to have compassion too...compassion that will drive us out of our comfort zones into a world of agony so that we can DO something about what we see around us.
Many have come here and gotten the help they needed and I do thank God for that....but some of these have left this group because "their" need was met. Oh how I would have loved to see them stay and start to minister to the needs of others or that they would have gone out to tell others about this ministry. This is in according the the Bible you know...
2 Corinthians 1: 3: Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4: Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
In closing, I want to refer you to a few messages that will help you start filling up on the RIGHT FUEL and to make sure you are giving the right fuel to those around you:
