The hidden half of domestic violence

How to have eternal life

July 4th  The Source of Freedom!

Today, those in the United States are celebrating what we call Independence Day.  Most of us know the history behind this day.  The shot heard around the world at Concord, the Revolutionary war and of course the Continental Congress and the Declaration of Independence.  Although this was a very important series of events in world history, This was NOT the source of our FREEDOM.   I do want to talk about the source of real freedom.

The Word of God tells us in  2 Corinthians 3:17  "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."     I have noticed that the nations that have given their citizens the most freedom have been those that adhered to Biblical principals the most...but this is not the freedom we need.  Lets take a few moments to look at the source of REAL FREEDOM.

You see, as humans we were born slaves.  Slaves to things that are wrong..that are sin.  We have an inborn nature to lie.  Why infants no more then days old do it.  How you say?  Infants cry when they have basic needs to be met...the need to be fed,  the need to be changed, but they soon learn to cry just to get attention when all the basic needs have been met.   Oh yes, there is a real human need even as a new born to be held, to feel loved.  In fact, at one time, hospitals used to put premature babies in incubators and hold them as little as possible.  Many of these precious babies died.  The reason was studied and it was called "Failure to thrive"  It was later learned that those babies that were held as often as possible did thrive, and they gained weight and grew.  .  Yet often these infants will cry just to be held.   It does show that we all need love and that there is a love worth finding.

How do we find this that is so unconditional to love us just as we are, but that also loves us so much to not leave us that way?   We find it where the Spirit of the Lord is.

We find it when we look for the things that will please God:

Psalm 119:45 And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

Of course, it is not in our nature to look for these things.  It is in our nature to love darkness.  To avoid the light.   Think for a moment.  You are in a dark room and have been there for some time.  Someone comes in and pulls open the curtain and bright sunlight instantly explodes in the room.  What is the first thing you do?  Is it not close your eyes and open them slowly as you shield your eyes from the light?  Oh, the light instantly conquered the darkness..  If you were in that darkness long enough and the sunlight is bright enough, the light can actually hurt.  If you stay in that darkness long enough, you can become ill. Depression can often be eased by being in sunlight.  Truth is much like this sunlight. It can hurt those who do not want to hear it.  When we hear the truth, we have to DO something with it.  To do nothing is to reject it.   We find this often in Shattered Men.  We have told some the truth about domestic relationships yet some will chose to deny it so they do not have to listen to the other half of this issue.   To deny the truth does not make it go away. It will not change the facts.  It is much like having a deadly disease.  We can deny it, but we will keep getting sicker and sicker until death occurs.  We can face the truth and get help and often be either cured or at least make things more comfortable for a good long time.   It is our choice.

Our choice!  It is our choice also to accept the truth about our real freedom.  Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.  How can we get this Spirit in our country, in our homes, in our schools and in  ourselves.?

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Truth comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God

Romans 10:17  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

In order to have it in our families, our country, our schools, we have to have it in us first.

How do we do this?  By placing our trust in Jesus Christ for full payment for all our sin:

Many people think that knowing that Jesus Christ died for our sin is all that is needed for salvation. It is NOT! In order to have salvation that is to have eternal life there are a few basic steps we need to follow. This is so important I want to go over them,

1: We need to realize we have sinned. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God This means we have failed to met the goal of being perfect in order to enter heaven. Few of us would question this.

2: The penalty for the sin that we are guilty of is death. Romans 6:23 tells us The wages of sin is death. (Death is separation. When our body dies, our soul is separated from our body. Eternal death is when we die without doing what is being explained here and then our spirit is separated from God for eternity.

Since the only price we can pay for our own sin is to be separated from God forever, it stands to reason that there is no way we can pay for our sin ourselves. We thus come to the 2nd part of Romans 6:23: but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ the Lord.

3: 2nd Corinthians 5:21 informs us: For he hath made him, who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Jesus Christ, God's only Son became sin for us so that we can be freed from the penalty of sin. What then do we need to do?

4: For GOD so loved the world that HE gave His only begotten Son that whosoever (read YOUR name here) believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Please note the ONLY condition given is that we believe in Jesus Christ for full payment for our sin.

5:  Many times our own past activities or the activities of our ancestors may be a basis for demonic problems based on Exodus 20:5.  It is important therefore to Renounce  the sins of our ancestors.

Now if we only learn these facts, even though we may understand that they are true and believe them. that is only knowing ABOUT GOD. How do we KNOW HIM then? It is APPLYING that payment to our account.

This would be like having a check to pay a bill and putting the check on a desk. The bill does not get paid because the check was never APPLIED to your account. Once we know and believe the facts pointed out above, the next step is to TALK to God much as you and I would and admit that we have fallen short of what He wants.

We recognize that we deserve to be separated from a Holy God. We then tell Him that we know that He has provided a payment for all our sin and this payment was Jesus Christ when He died on a cross.

It is at this time we ask God to APPLY THIS PAYMENT TO OUR ACCOUNT. We ask God to credit as PAYMENT IN FULL for all our sin the price Jesus paid for us. It is this step that gives us eternal life. If we do all but this step, we know about God.

When we do this step, we will KNOW God and we will have eternal life.  Following is a model of a prayer to trust Christ.

Lord God,  I now realize I am a sinner.  I realize I have fallen short of the goal You have set forth for eternal life and I now repent of this sin.  I also understand that according to Your Word, the Bible, that Your Son, Jesus Christ as paid the debt for me and I am now asking You to credit the payment Jesus made on the cross to my sin.  Lord God, I also renounce any sin on the part of  my ancestors that may have been invitations to curses or demonic activity.   Lord God I also now understand that You have now given me eternal life  and I thank You for that fact.    Amen.

Now for part two of this message on freedom.

Many of you have trusted Christ. You do belong to HIM and are a child of the KING, yet you are living in bondage.    There is good news for you too my friend.  That yoke can be broken.

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

Although this was a direct reference to Jesus Christ, I do believe HE has told us to do this now also.

Matthew 11
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

We have to let GRACE abound to be free from the burden of sin.  To do anything less is to place ourselves under bondage once more.  Jesus said HIS yoke is easy.   We have recently been studying grace in our Sunday night chats.  It looks like we will have a few more to go but I do want to follow up this message with a message on grace as soon as possible.

One problem we have with living IN GRACE is found in Galatians 2:4

And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

There are many that do not like the freedom we have been given by our LORD.  They will tell us we have to do this, or we can not do that.  This is to place ourselves back under bondage.  Galatians 5:1  tells us to "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."

We need to know who we are in Christ.  To really know nothing we can do can get HIM to show us more favor...or less.  HE does things for us because we are HIS children...not because we have earned it.  We can relax and enjoy Gods love without trying to earn it.  We have been set free from the bondage of the law by the cross of Jesus.  Because of this freedom, we can go on and be doers of HIS word....not out of duty...but out of LOVE for our LORD.

We can understand this concept better by thinking of our own children.  Do we not often do nice things for them not because they have earned it..but because we love them?   Oh the joy WE get to see their face eating an ice cream, the thrill of seeing their smile.   Oh yes, we may correct them and chasten them when they do wrong.  God has promised this to us too.

As I said, I will write in much more detail on this soon, but until then, let us enjoy our freedom in the LORD.

If you have not been freed yet, please know that we are here to help in anyway we can.

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Remember my friend, No matter what YOUR need is....Jesus is only a whisper away!
